$19,300. 16,200 miles on it. I’ve been watching the market for months and I think I got a pretty good deal.

Nice! DSG or Logitech disconnected shifter?

Manual. I think it shifts pretty nicely actually. I know a lot of people think otherwise though.

I thought it felt nice, but it wasn’t super engaging. It was very... German. It did exactly what it’s supposed to do, exactly how it’s supposed to do it.

I kid though, both are good choices... Unless you plan on modding it. Also, plan on replacing the clutch soon-ish, they are notoriously weak, even at stock power levels.

What other cars did you cross shop?

Oh god what have I done!

I like them pretty well too. It bothers me just a tiny bit that they’re directional and are the opposite way around on the other side of the car.

I considered a few cars but I only test drove this GTI. I was looking at the  Buick Regal GS, VW CC, Mk VI GTIs,  and Audi A4. I pretty much had my heart set on a Mk VII GTI though. Drove this one and I was sold.

I'm really itching for a Mk7. Which is a problem because I've had my Mk6 for less than a year. Congrats!

That’s the problem when you cross the threshold. You’ve up the stakes and now want only the finer things in life!

I blame my car being in the shop for a month. I got bored on a Saturday and went and test drove a 2018 GTI to get away from the horrid Elantra rental. I've wanted one since.

That’s a nice box, maybe not quite as good as the Mazda but better than the Subaru, Ford, etc.  Car looks super clean - nice.

I rented an Elantra to drive to Columbus to take a look at this car. The nicest thing I can say about the Elantra is that it is a car and it has CarPlay.

Thanks! I freaking love it so far. Work has been a real drag lately but this should give me some motivation to get out of bed in the morning!

I got a great deal on this one after months of searching and waiting. Nothing felt quite right until this one. All the pieces fell in place with ease.  If you want a MkVII just be patient and keep an eye out for one. You’ll find it. And you have a great car to drive while you search.

I don't think this is the case with the mk7s GTIs. I believe they share the clutch with the R, which is much more stout than the clutches found in the mk6 GTIs.

Shifter bushings might help. I’ve driven manual cable-shifted cars whose shift quality was vastly improved after installing them.

Nope, with a tune they last around 10-15k, without, maybe 40k. It has something to do with the pressure plate, not necessarily the clutch material itself.
